Women’s Advocates offers programming and services that create a continuum of safety for all victim/survivors and the community to break the cycle of domestic violence. 87% of the survivors Women’s Advocates serve identify as BIPOC. 67% identify as Black/African American. Their staff represent the communities they serve.
Women’s Advocates emergency shelter provides temporary, secure housing for up to 50 victim/survivors leaving dangerous and abusive situations. While in the shelter, they encourage residents to start healing through their Mental Health and Wellness program which teaches self-care and mindfulness techniques that center the mind, body, and spirit. To prevent and reduce violence in the community, Women’s Advocates’ Crisis Resource Advocacy program offers 24-hour support to victim/survivors in the community via their crisis line and web-based live chat, and offers weekly face-to-face community-based services through their Pop-up Advocacy program at the Rondo Library.
Additionally, the Outreach & Education team offers trainings on domestic violence and virtual support groups in the community. Women’s Advocates’ Housing Stability program offers significant rental assistance, housing search assistance, and housing stability advocacy for survivors for up to one year after leaving our shelter. Their Children’s Program advocates continue working with children after leaving the program to encourage two-generation healing.
