Breaking Free

Breaking Free empowers survivors of sex trafficking and prostitution to build new lives through safe housing, direct services, effective healing programs, survivor advocacy, worldwide policy change, and hope. Breaking Free’s client services program, which includes a drop-in center, is their core program and gateway to other services provided by Breaking Free.

After an initial intake and assessment is completed, an individual plan for each client is established and implemented, which includes advocacy services for individuals with concurring issues of poverty, homelessness, substance abuse, and violence necessitates a holistic approach to overcome each of these barriers. Breaking Free advocates help develop a case plan and provide information and referrals to appropriate services or agencies, as well as directly advocating on behalf of clients within these services and agencies.

It also includes weekly educational support groups facilitated by Breaking Free staff are a combination of people sharing their experiences and learning about the dynamics of sex trafficking and exploitation including their Sisters of Survival (SOS), SOS Alumni, Life Skills, and Job/Educational Skills educational groups andprograms. Moreover, Breaking Free’s Permanent Supportive Housing program helps house survivors and their children in a variety of counties throughout the wider metro area.

What does it mean to be trauma-informed?

Our advocates understand the impact of trauma on adults and youth. Our staff, services and buildings prioritize physical, psychological and emotional safety and are space for victims/survivors to have a sense of control and feel empowered to make their own choices.
